Welp! Its my birthday month and that means I am about to be one year older. Good? Bad? I'm indifferent. 31 doesn't have the clout and special milestone vibe of 30 or 35, which means I am in for four years of birthday purgatory.
When I was 10 I wanted to be 16 so I could drive. When I was 16 I wanted to be 18 so I could go to college and be independent. When I was 18 I wanted to be 21 so I could go to the bars. When I was 21 I wanted to be done with school and start my working life. I had a quarter-life crisis at 25 and another at 30, but now I am going to be 31 so all of that is behind me. LOL. Psych! Now I just wish I had 3 of the past 31 years back so I could be a little younger and make a few decisions differently with the information I now have about repercussions.
Life's not perfect so I guess I will stick with the one that I have. At least I have a full head of hair, good skin, great legs, and money in the bank... oh and my health, family, friends, a roof over my head, yada, yada...
This month is a dedication to one of my favorite meals... the cheese and charcuterie board. I will not be making cheese or curing meats, but I will be sharing some recipes for all things cheese and meat complimentary (I like compliments). Here is the recipe list:
Pickled Red Onions
Dried Fruit & Seed Crisps
And perhaps a bonus cake recipe, if I am feeling up to it. You know, because I am old now and tire easily.
And now all the things you will need from the grocery store:
Apple Cider Vinegar
Sugar - just a small bag or box since this is kind of a savory month
Shallot - just one!
Head of Garlic
Whole Grain Mustard
All Purpose Flour - should only need a small bag this month!
Baking Soda - if its not already a pantry staple
Whole Milk - quart will do you
Brown Sugar - just one of the small boxes
Honey or Agave Syrup - again, only if its not already a staple
Red Onion - just one
Figs - any fresh kind you can find, need 1 pound
Orange - just one, will need the zest and the juice so get a big one!
optional items for the crisps (choose any combo that sounds good to you or you can go plain):
dried cranberries **
pumpkin seeds (might have some left from last month's chocolate bark recipe?)**
** items I will be using in the recipe
